We are continuing to work on regrouping in Math. We are also studing "American Symbols" along with "Presidents". The students are full of information! I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of a few upcoming events. Tomorrow we will be painting in Art class. The art teacher would like everyone to bring an old shirt they can put on over their clothes to paint in.
If your child would like to decorate a shirt for our 100th day of school please allow them to wear it on Friday, Jan. 18th. You may decorate it any way you like to celebrate our 100th day. Reading groups will resume tomorrow, Jan. 15. Please look for books to come home. Please remember to read with your child and sign and return the log. Math groups will resume next week. Our Christmas party will be on the morning of December 19th. We will dismiss early on the 19th at 11:20. Please make sure your child knows if there is any change to their normal dissmissal. We are beginning to enjoy fun Christmas stories in reading along with some interesting activities. Our field trip to see the "Nutcracker" is on Monday, December 10. It is hard to believe that we are in the month of November! We are learning about Thanksgiving long ago. We are continuing to learn about telling time and 2 digit addition.
We are in need of a few things: candy for our candy box, snack (such as granola bars or fruit snacks), and small prizes for our prize box. Please remember that our book fair is open this week. It will open at 7:45 and close at 3:30 Mon.-Thurs. Upcoming date are as follows: Nov. 12-16 Book Fair 13 Build a book Family Night (free) PTO Meeting 8:30 19-23 Thanksgiving Break Our mystery word for this week is "turkey." Please remember to sign your student planner each day and if you write the word "Pumpkin" on their planner, they will receive a treat for your visit to the website. We will be discussing the voting process and what governance is in America along with talking about pumpkins. In math we will continue measuring by inches and centimeters and telling time to the five minutes on an analog clock. Look for our spelling words this week on the spelling tab. Please send in a small pumpkin on Friday for some math fun with pumpkins! Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend open house last Thursday. It was wonderful to see all the families here. We have been learning about communities past and present. We will be ending our study on Wednesday by having a "Day in School Long Ago." Students may dress up like boys and girls long ago. We will be providing potato and broccoli/cheese soup for the class. Students may still bring a lunch or order a school lunch. Please check the spelling tab for our spelling words this week. Second grade will be giving a system wide Benchmark Pre-Test for second grade skills on Tuesday - Thursday. This is a pre-test that will allow us to measure growth for skills taught. We will not have reading groups this week because of the pre-test and field trip. Thank you to all who have volunteered to help with groups.
